I don't know, I'm pretty pleased with the whole build-a-figure bonus thing and it seems well suited to the bitsy nature of the bots in Futurama.
While Robot Devil takes some work to set him up and find his right balance, I don't find him that much more precariously perched than some of my Benders.
That said, Robot Santa is easier with his chunky nature, so maybe that's the way to go with BAFs. Trouble is the bigger the BAF, the smaller/fewer the accessories it seems.
If you didn't have the BAF, another idea I thought would be to include one head in a jar per figure, which would be sweet. Or could have a series pairing a big figure with a tiny one - Nibbler, Hypnotoad, Guenter...any others?
But from Toynami's perspective, not sure either of these ideas would be as effective a sweetener to entice people to buy all the figures. And in the end, as a buyer I still like getting seven full-size figures for the price of six.

I read somewhere Amy will have the tommy gun aswel as a spiked ball for Santa's hat. Check it out. The round ball can be taken off. I can see why people think the build-a-bot figures are a bad idea. If you have no interest in certain characters you don't want to buy them just to get the BAB. I thought it was pretty neat Toynami released Robot Santa as part of the exclussive. He's not cheap but at least you can get him without having to buy all 6 figures. But as a collector of all figures I really like the build-a-bot concept. The wait between waves is pretty long but I like watching these figures come together over time and they're really cool once they're complete. I hope Toynami has a new BAB and new figures on display at the New York Toy Fair next week!

In the end of the day, if the BAF entices more people to buy all of the figures, then that translates to better sales and in turn a healthier Futurama product for Toynami, which hopefully extends the life of the line with more figure offerings for all of us.
That said, I don't understand either why Robot Santa was the 2008 SDCC exclusive. If you announce a teaser sweetener for the line the form of a BAF, then why scoop yourself by offering it up ahead for anyone to buy at the convention? I think Santa Bender made sense as everyone likes Bender and it's a good lead-in to build anticipation for the Robot Santa BAF that goes nicely with it. Maybe it was an easy cash grab, by throwing in their extra Santas and charging more for the exclusive.
Regardless, I just hope we don't see that again, as the exclusives should be a completely different figure. Also we only got the one exclusive last year, versus two the year before, so it would be nice to see the Wizard exclusive come back. If nothing else, and Toynami is trying to save cash amid the downturn, I'd take more Universe B versions of the Planet Ship crew to go with Golden Bender and Blue Zoidberg - they ought to be relatively cheap to do, same figure moulds with just different paint jobs.

Yup, you weren't the only one - was equally peeved about the lack of spikes. For what it's worth, toy reviewer Michael Crawford, whose reviews are well worth checking out, also mentioned this news in his SDCC exclusive Robot Santa review: EDIT - word from Toynami is that the BAF version WILL hae the spiky ball (as well as a machine gun), to further differentiate it from the SDCC version. The fact that plain ball easily pulls off the head from the Santa BAF also suggests it's interchangeable with something. Though I'm still waiting to see it to believe it. If so, the spiked ball hat and the machine gun will really tie the figure together nicely. And people who bought the SDCC version, can alway buy the next two figures to add these accessories.

Hedonism Bot is probably the best choice, I mean he is much more involved with the series than any of the other choices.

That would be cool, I do not think toynami will stop. If they keep selling there is no conceivable reason they would stop manufacturing.

At first my three were HedonismBot, DonBot, ad Destructor. Then I thought about the aesthetics of it and functionality of the piece and really, Crushinator is better than Destructor. It's very colorful and you should be able to open the side door and pull out the front part as what happened in The Series Has Landed. Crushinator's leg opens in BWABB to reveal the crew inside but I think Crushinator would work better because I would think there would be more you could do with it.
